MONDAY INSIGHTS

 Monday is traditionally a rough day for working people and families. It’s hard to change gears again after the weekend, going back to work and/or school with a different schedule from  the weekend. 

Since I retired, Mondays a certainly a lot easier! Oh, I still wake up early, but I can now be more leisurely about getting ready for my day. My hubby, also a retired teacher (for a decade), subs four or five days a week in  local high schools. So that keeps busy, with holidays and summers off. Plus, he can choose when/where he wants to work!

Yes, indeed, doxies do smile ~ and our featured doxies today are proof! 

Dogs share many of our human emotions:

•Happiness

•Jealousy

•Grief

•Anger

•Hunger (oh yeah!)

•Loneliness 

Boredom

•Pity

•Compassion

•Sadness

There are probably others as well. In any case, there is not much else as happy as a happy dawg!

FAMILY STUFF

 My husband Clark’s birthday was a couple of weeks ago, and our oldest daughter Holly gave him this mug—don’t you love it? She’s the “Mr. Fixit” in their family. She loves being outdoors and doing yard work, tinkering with the lawn mower, putting up curtain rods and decor, painting and repairing—you name it. She’s even been known to make rustic wooden furniture for their screened-in porch!

Her hubby Philip is more like me: an indoor person who has a problem with hot, humid weather. He’s a grill chef extraordinaire, though, turning out such delicacies as shrimp tortellini, chicken stir fry with rice and veggies. and smash burgers to die for. He’s also the busy, amazing pastor of our church!

We each have our strengths, right!

Our daughter Bethany lives in California with her hubby Kurt, so we don’t get to see them often. They might be out of sight, but definitely NOT out of mind! She’s a wonderful chef and stay-at-home mom to their kitty Winston, while Kurt works for Facebook. We love and miss them so much!

Our grands are growing way too fast! They brighten our lives and give us much joy, but there’s not enough space here to write of all their accomplishments and adventures:

MONDAY HAS A COMPLEX

 Mondays are hard after a great weekend. As a retiree, I’m happy to report that I don’t hate Mondays—I never did, but I’v e never been a morning person. 

Now that I’m retired and can get up as late as I wish—guess what? I’m usually up around 6:00 - 6:30 a.m.! Older adults need less sleep than young people. That’s odd—now that I have time to get my sleep, I don’t need it. Go figure.

'NUFF SAID!

Do you think Mondays get a bum rap? Some folks are now back at work, while others are still sheltering in place, so it's hard to say overall. But . . . Mondays are rough when one works full time and has busy, activity-filled weekends!  I'm retired, so Mondays don't really affect me all that much.

In any case, we can all agree that dachshunds are cute, Mondays or not:

SALVADOR DALI AND DACHSHUNDS

When I took the art appreciation course in college, I always loved paintings by the surrealist artist Salvador Dali. He saw life from a different lens that the rest of us.  One of my favorites:

His paintings look like the odd and weird dreams we sometimes have, don't you agree?  The kingpin of the surrealist movement, his art is an important element even today.

HAPPY MONDAY (IF THERE IS SUCH A THING!!)

Ah, Mondays. Why does our culture dread Mondays so much?? We adore Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (until Sunday nights). It's all rooted in the work week, I'm sure of it. Now that I'm retired, I still love weekends and dread Mondays out of habit, although my Mondays aren't very much different from Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. 

I love getting up at a civilized time each morning. I still wake up early, and I usually roll out of bed before seven, but that's so much better that getting up at 5:00 a.m. like I did when I was teaching! I've never been a morning person myself, because I sleep deeply and it's hard for me to wake up, even with a good night's sleep. Now that I'm older, it's even harder to get up than it was when I was spry (if I ever was).
