WE HAD FUN

Easter Sunday

Metro Diner, Stone Mountain

At Cheesecake Factory Mall of Georgia

Our family had a wonderful Easter. The grands were with us for a few days (it's their spring break), and Duke was extremely happy with that! Alexa had sprained her ankle, but that didn't dampen any spirits--we all just waited on her, and we avoided such activities as bowling, skating, etc.

Have a great rest of the week, doxie lovers!

INDOXICATING

That is exactly how I feel about doxies!  I enjoy reading about them, looking at photos of them, watching videos of them--but most of all, living with our very own doxie Duke. He can be annoying at times, but he's a super dog, super pet, and a super family member.

He makes me laugh daily, lifts my spirits when I'm down, comforts me when I'm sad, and keeps me from being self centered. All in all, he's a human with four legs!

He loves all of us, especially the grandchildren, and the feeling is mutual. He gets down on the floor (well, where else could he go?) and plays with them when they visit, chasing after them and being chased by them. He steals their toys and makes a run for it, with an evil gleam in his eye. They love it, giggling all the while.

WHAT IS A DACHSHUND?

Dachshunds are definitely all that, and then some: how 'bout "ears of a polar bear" (who can hear something miles away) when it comes to food being prepared? You could probably think of lots more, too.

In any case . . .

SPRING HAS SPRUNG, DOXIE STYLE

Spring has definitely arrived here in Georgia, and the pollen as well! We might see a little more cold weather, but I'm hoping it won't freeze and spoil all the azaleas that are bursting forth all over our neighborhood.

Here are some cute doxies for you who are enjoying the nice weather:

DOXIE LOVE: IT'S UNCONDITIONAL

If you are like me, when I first saw this photo, I was touched by its sweetness. We all know that dachshunds have a great capacity for unconditional love, not only for their humans, but also for other dogs. This photo exemplifies that trait perfectly.

My doxie Duke is so loving that I could (and do) just squeeze him sometimes! These dogs are sweet, loving, comical, and even bratty at times, but very intelligent--and they know what they're doing, too.

LIVING THROUGH THE CRUD!

If anyone out there has wondered where I've been this week, here's the scoop:  I've been trying to live through the cold, a.k.a., crud since Monday!  Oh, it's been awful. I awoke Monday to a scratchy throat, and it went downhill from there.

Slight fever, sore throat, sinus headache, runny nose, watery, swollen eyes (I looked like I was crying for three solid days)!! Have been taking a decongestant, Tylenol, nasal spray, chicken soup, orange juice, and pain meds. I wanted to stay as comfortable as I possibly could, because colds really get the best of me.

After thinking about it, I haven't had a cold in about three years!  That's amazing, for me especially. When I taught in the classroom, it seemed like I was either coming down with a cold or surviving one very often. Of course, it didn't help that sick students would sneeze in my face or hack over me. No wonder I had colds so often then!

In any case, I do believe I'll live through this one and hope to have a productive coming week. My hubby AND my doxie Duke have treated me very well. Clark has cooked for me, cleaned up the kitchen afterwards, done laundry, and waited on me. Duke has stayed by my side, giving me long, imploring looks like he was saying, "Don't worry, Mama. I'm here and I'll take care of you." Then he'd give me a doggie kiss on my hand or cheek. Can't have better care than these two.

GRANDSON'S SIXTH BIRTHDAY: A STAR WARS PARTY!

It's hard to believe that Asher turned six on Saturday! His mom (our daughter Holly) had a Star Wars themed birthday party for him, which was perfect. He, like most young boys, LOVES anything to do with Star Wars. In fact, his bedroom is a Star Wars pad. But I digress.

Clark and I were privileged to attend his party, and we enjoyed seeing all the decorations and cute things Holly used for the decorations and food. She also made the cake and decorated it herself!

Without further ado, here are photos of the big event:

Beautiful cake--he wanted buttercream frosting instead of fondant

Birthday boy as we all sang "Happy Birthday"

Blowing out the candles

Food table

Large pretzel sticks dipped in colored white chocolate

Self explanatory!

Large marshmallows decorated with edible ink

Opening his gifts

A few of his friends--there were four tables of them!

The games consisted of a search outside for the Luke Skywalker toy; playing with light sabers; "Bingo" with Star Wars figures on the cards instead of numbers--winners received a prize for each game.

At the close of the party, the children enjoyed the playground next door. It was a great party, and the children enjoyed it very much. Family is everything!!

WATCHDOG OR ANNOYANCE?

Absolute truth when it comes to dachshunds--even if a noise sounds like a knock, they're all over it! Sometimes, if I close a closet door or open a drawer, Duke barks like mad. It can get annoying, but sometimes it's a good thing that he barks when an unusual noise occurs. He's our watchdog, you know.

Dachshunds . . . you gotta love 'em, even when you want to strangle 'em!
