CHRISTMAS DOXIE #19: HOWLELUIA!

Less than a week until Christmas--are you ready?  I wrapped the last of our presents yesterday.  Hey, I even wrap the stocking stuffers because it's more fun for the grandchildren that way!

We always get the animals in our family something as well:  the two doxies, Shadow and Duke, and the four cats:  Aslan, Piper, Tate, Joey, and Winston.  Oh, Clark and I don't have any of them except Duke; the others belong to our daughters and their families.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

CHRISTMAS DOXIE #18: DUKE THE SUPER DAWG!

Our little grandson Asher decided that Duke would look dashing in Asher's Superman cape, so here he is.

Red does complement Duke's black and tan coat, don't you think?

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

CHRISTMAS DOXIE #15: I AM DACHSHUND!

This beautiful doxie is the same one who graces the cover of I AM DACHSHUND, Book 2 of THE DACHSHUND ESCAPADES.  He looks mighty festive, doesn't he?

Happy Saturday and Merry Christmas, doxie lovers!

CHRISTMAS DOXIE #12: CAROLERS

Hmmmm . . . what would these carolers be singing?

"Happy Howl-er-days"?

"Dachs-ing Through the Snow"?

"Have Yourself a Doxie Little Christmas"?

"Fleas Navidad"?

"Doxin' Around the Christmas Tree"?

In any case, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

CHRISTMAS DOXIE #11: BOOKWORM!

This doxie is reminding you that the books of THE DACHSHUND ESCAPADES would make great Christmas gifts for dog lovers of any age!  Written from Sarge the dachshund's viewpoint, he loves Christmas and writes much about it.

CHRISTMAS DOXIE #10: REINDEER DOXIE

For a change, here's a doxie that is a drawing rather than a live doxie dressed up for Christmas.  Thought I'd give the dawgs a break today :).

This black-and-tan variety (my favorite doxie coat by far), is really decked out:  antlers, bow, jingle bell collar, and a silver garland--surrounded by greenery, holly, and poinsettia.  Nevertheless, even in the drawing, he does not thrilled, does he?  As you and I know, our doxies generally don't like to be "messed with."  Oh, they'll tolerate coats, hats, boots, and the like--but not because they like it.  They do it because they like US.

When I was around nine years old, my family had a standard red dachshund named Elia.  We lived in Bremerhaven, Germany, at the time, Where my US Army dad was stationed for three years on a tour of duty.  Elia would allow me to dress her in baby clothes, wrap her in a baby blanket, and push her around in my doll baby stroller.  Well, I enjoyed pushing her in it outside, along the sidewalks surrounding our military quarters on post.  People would often stop, thinking to indulge this little girl by asking to see my "baby"--imagine their surprise when they looked in and saw a doggie dressed up like a baby instead of a doll!  I had great fun watching their expressions.  Many wondered how I managed to keep Elia still.  Nothing--she was perfectly content being wrapped in a blanket and pushed around like that.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

CHRISTMAS DOXIE #9: DOXIE ORNAMENTS--HANG 'EM HIGH!

My favorite:  not an ornament, but a cute
doxie nativity scene
Doxie Christmas ornaments are all the rage now (well, at least with doxie lovers).  Can't stop with just one (like potato chips), however.  Here are more of my favorites:  which do you like best?

CHRISTMAS DOXIE #8: AM I AN ELF, OR WHAT??

"I am not amused, and will be so glad when you guys decide to give me a toy, a treat, or a back rub for all the crazy things you're making me wear before Christmas!  I think that this hat looks ridiculous on me, especially the way it is shaped.  And I think it also makes me look fat."

Tomorrow, I promise that our Christmas doxie #10 will be in a happier frame of mind!  It's just that doxies have such a great ability to communicate with their facial expressions and body language.  Can't pull anything over on them, can we?

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

CHRISTMAS DOXIE #7: "YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE" . . . NOT!

Sorry, no happy camper today, either.  It's amazing how our doxies will often put up with so much from their humans, but they certainly don't mind letting us know how they feel about it!

Duke just will not sit still and allow Clark or me decorate HIM.  Oh no.  If he sees us coming toward him with something suspicious looking in our hands (paws?), he'll jump down and get out of harm's way.  Oh, we wouldn't hurt him for the world, of course, but let HIM be the judge of that, LOL.

I've tried putting hats on his head--nope.  I've tried ribbons around his neck--nope.  And heaven forbid if I tried to put dog booties or Christmas lights on him!  He has allowed us to put one of Shadow's sweaters on him--but then, Shadow was already wearing one himself.  They looked kinda cute together with their red sweaters.

Have you ever "decorated" your doxie for Christmas and lived to tell about it?  If so, leave a comment and share it with the rest of us doxie lovers!

Speaking of Shadow, see today's post on my other blog, http://the-dachshund-escapades.blogspot.com - he has been quite longsuffering in being decked out for just about anything!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

CHRISTMAS DOXIE #6: FAKE DOXIES

Looks like we have our same red doxie today, and he is no more thrilled today than yesterday when he was festooned with the holly collar :).

Note the doggie decorations in the background; the dog lover apparently thinks the decorations are cute, unlike our doxie friend here.  All he wants to do is get away from all the trappings of Christmas and go lie down on a soft pillow, eat something, chase a squirrel in the backyard, or have a robust game of tug-of-war with a willing human.

I fervently hope he gets his wish . . .

In any case, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

CHRISTMAS DOXIE #5: "I MIGHT WEAR HOLLY, BUT I'M FAR FROM JOLLY!"

I don't personally know this cute red doxie, but he/she does not look very joyful!  Oh, the dawg is posing nicely, but methinks that the holly collar is not to this dachshund's liking.

Other captions that fit this Christmas doxie:

"I'll even wear this dumb collar for a treat!"

"If you like it so much, why don't YOU wear it??"

"Why didn't you make one of the cats or one of the children wear it?"

"Do you REALLY think I don't realize how ridiculous this looks?"

"Just wait until I get my teeth into this collar . . . how'd you like some red and green confetti?"

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

CHRISTMAS DOXIE #4: SANTA CLAWS

Here's a pic of our granddawg Shadow, all dressed up in his Santa suit.  Now 12 years old, he seems to be saying, "Mom, I'm too old for this!"  But we all think he is still cute.  Holly said he was very compliant and even got a treat out of the deal.

Although he doesn't like to play as much as Duke does (who is half Shadow's age), Shadow still has some fun left in him:  let Duke get one of Shadow's toys, and you'll see who's boss!  Duke is larger than Shadow, but always defers to his "elder."  Such is the pecking order of dawgs.

Merry Christmas, doxie lovers!  May you have a "doggone" blessed and wonderful season, filled with peace and joy.

CHRISTMAS DOXIE #3--THE CUTE RED PUPPY

This lil' pup appears to be only weeks old (perhaps eight to ten weeks?), and he would make someone a lovely Christmas present!

Not quite old enough to understand about presents, just wait until next year when he will help "unwrap" everything, even if his family isn't ready for him to do so.

"Deck the halls with boughs of holly, fa la la la la la la la la . . ."
