VINTAGE CHRISTMAS ~ SO IT BEGINS

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving ~ our family certainly did! You notice that since I am writing this blog post, I'm not out partaking of the Black Friday frenzy in stores. Nope--not this gal. I much prefer getting the house ready for the Christmas holidays (if I ever get going, that is!).

Let's kick off the wonderful Christmas season with these beautiful vintage Christmas doxie postcards and Christmas cards. Enjoy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

Yes, today is MY birthday. Some years, it actually falls on Thanksgiving Day, but this year it's on a Monday. That's no problem--I'm thankful to have a birthday ANY day of the week.

With Thanksgiving approaching this Thursday, I'd like to combine sentiments of that with my birthday, because I have so many things for which I'm thankful:

* My faith in Christ, Who gave me eternal life when I accepted Him as my Lord and Savior on 12/09/75

* My family: my husband Clark, our two daughters and sons-in-law, our three grandchildren, two granddawgs, and six grandkitties! This also includes my brother Steve and his family, and Clark's brother and sister and their families

* My health (as one ages, that item is more appreciated every year!)

* My friends, near and far

* My beautiful country, the good ol' USA

* All the dogs I've ever known and loved!

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving season? May you have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving with your family and loved ones!

IT'S A DOG'S LIFE

Image may contain: dog and indoor

Here's a photo of my granddawgs Sunny and Bruno, taken last night on their couch at home. They had spent the day with us, and wore themselves out barking at all the different sounds they heard at our house: cars going by in the neighborhood, distant dogs barking, planes flying overhead, leaves falling to the ground (ha ha), and so on. They ran around in our fenced backyard, played, and only took one or two short naps the entire day!

Sunny wanted to be in my lap every time I sat down . . . she missed Mama, aka Holly, so I was the next best thing. Bruno is too large to sit in my lap, so he was relegated to another chair, the couch, or the floor. Poor dawg.

We always enjoy having them over when their family has other obligations taking them away from home too long. Such was yesterday.

Granddawgs . . . you gotta love 'em!

HAPPY 14TH BIRTHDAY, GRANDDAUGHTER

Image may contain: Philip Blinson, smiling, standing

Our middle grandchild Alexa is 14 years old today! It's really hard to believe, but then, I suppose all grandparents say that. On Saturday her parents had a huge bonfire birthday party for her at home with nearly 50 guests in attendance. They had a fire in the backyard fire pit, and guests roasted hot dogs on sticks (they tasted yummy, I might add). Guests picked up plates, sodas, buns, and condiments at a nearby table. After the hot dogs, they roasted marshmallows and made somemores!  Oh, how that reminds me of my Girl Scout days when we used to do that at camp.

The birthday cake, at Alexa's request, was a stacked tower of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. The kids in attendance especially loved that! And Mama didn't mind at all, because birthday cake can get messy, and it's hard to choose a flavor that everyone likes. With a variety of doughnuts, guests chose what they liked!

Below are a few photos of the festivities:

VETERANS DAY

Both my late father and my husband are military veterans, and I am very thankful for their service to this country. My dad served in the Philippines and Guadalcanal during World War II, and my husband Clark served in Vietnam.

Millions have honorably served our country, and we should never take our freedoms and blessings for granted. Is America perfect? No, but she is the best thing to ever come along on this planet as far as countries go. I am proud to be an American, as the song says.

Take the time to thank a veteran you know. They don't get enough recognition, and it begins with each of us. Happy Veterans Day!

WEEKENDS AND COFFEE!

No photo description available.

November is just trucking right along, just like August, September, and October did! Seems like I just turned around, and it's almost Thanksgiving. Don't get me wrong--this is actually my favorite time of the year: cooler weather, beautiful fall colors, and family celebrations (we have three family birthdays during November), plus Thanksgiving! Then on to December with Christmas, another family birthday, two family wedding anniversaries, and then New Year's. Wow--2019 looms on the horizon already.

Enjoy these beautiful fall pictures:
