Such is the dachshund philosophy! They must "kill" every toy that has a squeaker, and it drives them crazy until they do, growling and shaking it to death.
I think this behavior harks back to their breeding; after all, they were bred to burrow underground in badger holes and kill those vicious, pesky creatures. In fact, "dachshund" means badger dog in German. Doxies are sweet, but I don't think I'd want to meet up with one in a badger hole! (Not that I could fit into one, mind you.)
In any case, they love to kill toys, play tug-of-war, and are, for the most part, happy and comical creatures. And we wouldn't have them any other way.
Dachshunds . . . you gotta love 'em--killer instinct and all.
