I’m a keen observer of dogs, all breeds. Most larger breeds like to play with toys, at least when they’re puppies and before they get too dignified to be seen with a toy. Small breeds all seem to enjoy toys, at least from my less-than-scientific observation. However, doxies have made playing with toys into a science!
And if said toys happen to have squeakers, watch out! Doxies have a strong prey drive, so they set out to kill that squeaker, and do so in a matter of a few minutes!
Doxie pawrents often lament about their “destructive” dogs, but we must realize that they were bred for hunting badgers, which are tough customers. I’m thankful that doxies aren’t the size of great danes, given their prey drive and determination. And single mindedness. And instinct . And focus.
But it’s nearly impossible to avoid loving these bundles of energy and happiness. And who would want to?
