My parents met in 1943 when Dad was on leave in Charlotte, NC. Mom was 16, attending business school and fresh off her family’s farm in rural Stanley County, NC. They saw each other on the city bus, and the rest, as they say, was history!
They eloped in February 1944 when Mom was 17 and Dad was 30! My maternal grandparents weren’t thrilled, but grew to love my dad over the years. My parents were married for 56 years when Dad passed away in October 2000.
I was born in NC in 1947, and my brother Steve was born while we were in France in 1954. I loved my childhood, attending 13 schools in four states and two foreign countries.
